Happy P&P birthday to me + Giveaway

I have been thinking for some time about doing a giveaway for some of my loyal readers. You may not be hundreds but I am so glad that you follow whenever I am posting a review!

When I started the blog, I did not use it much, I do not feel like I have an anniversary date, so why not celebrating my birthday and giving something away?

I am going to give you my Top 10 Pride and Prejudice fan fiction books. The order is random and after thinking about it a lot, I may repeat authors because “I’m worth it” 😛

However, let me ask you a question, what makes the perfect book? how would you decide the top 10 for your list? In my case is as simply as: I loved the book, it made me feel (happy, sad, nervous, excited, amused…). I love the book and I want to read it again, or at least I remember everything afterwards. Some of my choices may not be your favourites or maybe you did not like them much, and I can understand it. What I would like to say is that even if I have loved a book, I still can realise if it has some flaws, or repetitions, or some style mistakes, etc. but above all a book needs no make me feel and transport me to its story.

I believe I am getting a bit annoying with this idea of what a book means to me, so without more ado, here you have my list and a bit more. (I have to say that I have focused only on stories where Darcy and Lizzy are the protagonists (being the “real” ones or modern ones), I have tried to “reduce” the possibilities to 10 for my list).

  1. Mr. Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter by Joana Starnes
    • Heartache, tears, sighs… simply great!
  2. When they fall in love by Mary Lydon Simonsen
    • Italy, years after the proposal, a widower Darcy… love is all around!
  3. Love at first sight by J. Marie Croft
    • The Bennet brothers… Yes, brothers!
  4. Green Card by Elizabeth Adams
    • “You gave me Valhalla” (sorry, you have to read it to understand! Just wait until late spring as it is getting even better 😛  )
  5. To Conquer Mr. Darcy by Abigail Reynolds
    • “Very fetching Miss Bennet” (same as above, read it!)
  6. Pulse and Prejudice by Colette L. Saucier
    • Darcy’s passion x 100
  7. Still a Young Man by P.O. Dixon
    • OMG! Elizabeth, STOP. IT!!! You are not so old at all!!
  8. Behind the Mask by Bronwen Chisholm
    • A very “spicy” start but after that, it is lovely.
  9. Mr. Darcy came to Dinner by Jack Caldwell
    • The cat is very important 😉 + Darcy vs. Collins!
  10. The Subsequent Proposal by Joana Starnes
    • Darcy, Elizabeth, Anne and Wentworth… what else?

What are your thoughts about these books? Have you read any of them? What was your opinion?

time to give away

I am giving away three books (March is the third month) and the giveaway is open internationally! So three winners will be lucky to get one of these:

mdbb-final-6_9_m-smallstill a young manthe man who loved pandp

If you would like to participate on my giveaway, you have to comment telling me about your favourite Pride and Prejudice variation (or one of them) and I would like to know about what the book made you feel or why is one of your favourite ones!

Please leave you email address as well following the example: myvicesandweaknesses (at) gmail (dot) com

The entries will be taken into account until 11:59pm (GMT) on the 31st of March.

If you have read any of the three books or you have a preference, please say it.

Feel free to comment on my choices! Is there any book that you think it should be in EVERY top 10? Is there any of these book that you will just give them one or two stars, why?

Just remember, those 10 are not the only books tha I love, it has been very difficult to choose ten, I have decided to choose 10 that are quite different from each other in order to make a entertaining list.

  1. Happy birthday! I hope you’ve had a good one. My favourite P&P variation would be Mr Darcy’s Obsession by Abigail Reynolds. It was one of the first JAFF books I read and I was blown away by it.

Love your list. I’ve read quite a few on there 🙂

    1. Nice one! Abigail Reynolds was my first Jaff author, I used to buy her books on Amazon US to have them sent to Spain! Loooong time ago!

  2. ¡¡¡Feliz cumpleaños Anita!! I wish you all the very best today and everyday.
I don’t think it is possible to have a JAFF favorite, there are so many wonderful stories! But definitively Abigail Reynolds is the first I read and my favorite since then.
I have read several of your list and I’m doing my best to read the rest.

  3. Happy 31st Birthday! Ack, I’m old enough to be your mom! One of my daughters turns 31 in about 3 weeks. I feel old.

I have so many favorite JAFF novels. I love all of Abigail Reynolds’ books as well as those by Joana Starnes. Linda Wells is another favorite. So many wonderful books. My kindle runneth over!

    1. Thank you Pam! I think both authors are awesome. I have not read anything by Linda Wells…yet!
Would you like to participate on the giveaway?

      1. Oh, yes please! I’d love to read “The Man Who Loved Pride and Prejudice” by Abigail Reynolds. Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Happy Birthday. My favourite P&P books are the series by S.M. Klassen starting with Mary, Mary, Not So Ordinary and now is on the fourth book. The stories just draw me in and I am just frustrated that I have a long wait between books.
I have read a few of the books on the list -and love Joana Starnes (subsequent proposal) and Jack Caldwell.
I have yet to get Mr. Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter so that would be my pick.

  5. Happy Birthday! I have read all of your top ten excerpt for Green Card. I’m definitely going to have to look that up. I have also read two of the three books in the giveaway, I have yet to pick up Mr Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter. The thing I like most in a book is not being able to sleep until I reach the end, or wanting more as soon as I finish, or even being so surprised at the end I have to go back and see what I missed. I read voraciously and my only wish is that good books keep coming. I’m even willing to suffer through the bad ones to get to a good one!

    1. I totally agree with the sleeping part but unfortunately I normally have to stop if it’s during the week and I still have too much to read!

  6. My current favorite jaff story is A Darcy By Any Other Name as I really loved the premise and have never read a body swap jaff before. Out of the 3 books in your giveaway, I have never read Mr. Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter so that would be my top pick. jadseah4 (at) yahoo (dot) com

  7. You’re so kind, Anna! Thanks ever so much, I’m so glad that Mr B’s Dutiful Daughter and The Subsequent Proposal are on your list of favourites! Hope you had some downtime (& fun-time) on your birthday and here’s to lots more fun to come!

  8. Best wishes for a very Happy Birthday and many more of the same! You’ve inspired me to do a Top Ten list of my own on my birthday next month.

I did not “discover” JAFF until mid-2015 and my first book was Four Days in April, still one of my favourites. In early 2016 I won a contest and received all four of Brenda Webb’s books in print format. (I know — WOW!) While there are many authors whose writing I enjoy, I love Brenda’s stories. They have everything: danger, excitement, intrigue, nasty villains, and always a very heroic Darcy. (They’re a little bit spicy, too.)

If I am fortunate enough to win this giveaway, I would very much like to read Still a Young Man. I’ve read and enjoyed several of Pam Dixon’s works but missed this one.

When we were kids, our Mom had us give gifts on our birthdays. Yes, we could accept them too, but we did have to give some away. So glad to see the tradition continues here! With many thanks and best regards … EverySavageCanDance1796 (at) gmail (dot) com

    1. Thank you , Janis! I m happy to have inspired you to do a top 10 as well. I can assure you it is soooo complicated to do! I have a list with many more books, I contemplated the idea of doing a top 16 but as I had to be out for most of the day and I am very busy lately, I could not finish it on time.
I wish you luck on the giveaway and your choice is a great one 🙂

  9. Happy Birthday! I’m thrilled you included To Conquer Mr. Darcy on your list, and in such good company. I’m always impressed with people who can manage to choose a top 10 JAFF books – mine would be more like my top 45! 😉

    1. That was the problem I had, I was doing more than ten but I did not want to bore the readers!! as you can see I have put a book on the giveaway that it is not on the list but I have the impression that people I know have not read it as much as other books written by you.
I tried to put very different books on the list but I still missed some! One day I may do a massive list 🙂

  12. Of all the P & P fanfiction I’ve read, Haunting Mr. Darcy by KaraLynne Mackrory is one of my favorites. The plot is very unique, Darcy & Elizabeth stayed true to their characters, their relationship was developed so we’ll, and to top it off it was very entertaining and kept me turning page after page.

Of 3 books listed that I would like to win for this giveaway is Mr. Bennett’s Dutiful Daughter because I have enjoyed other books written by Joana Starnes and I think she’s a great author.

  13. Happy birthday! I really liked The Abominable Mr. Darcy, Unequal Affections, and Fitzwilliam Darcy Rock Star. I like how they show different sides of the characters, and you really have time to see the love between Elizabeth and Darcy when it’s hard to see in the original.

  14. Happy 31st Birthday!

I have read half of the books listed above and loved every single one of them. The rest of the books will definitely be added to my to be read list. I especially loved the part the cat played in bringing Elizabeth and Darcy together in Mr. Darcy Came To Dinner!

Mr. Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter has been on my list of books to read but after reading the reviews it just jumped to the top on the list! I have read the other two give away books so would appreciate receiving a copy of this one should I be lucky enough to win.

  16. Happy 31st!😃 One of my favorites is Brenda Webb. I recently read “Passages” and loved it. I like a book that makes me cry and sigh at the same time. I also like Pam Dixon, Abigail Reynolds, and Joanna Starnes. I have not read, “Mr. Bennett’s Dutiful Daughter”, so that would be my pick. haircare125 (at) verizon (dot) com.

  17. Happy Birthday! You have many of my favorites on your list. I have so many favorites I could not begin to choose only one. At the very top of my favorite Austenesque authors list, however, would probably be Abigail Reynolds. She always manages to write creative, believable stories and keep Austen’s delicious wit alive without descending into saccharine romance.

  18. Happy birthday, Ana! And thank you for the giveaway. I’d like The man who loved P&P, since I think it is the only book from Abigail R. that I haven’t read yet. I also love Linda Wells books, Cat Gardiner’s, Lory Lilian’s, Joana Starnes’, Pamela Lynne’s, Linda Beutler’s and so many others.

  22. Happy birthday!!!

Nr 2,3,4 og 6 I haven’t read. Love to find new variations💖, thank you for bringing them to my notice.
My biggest fear is that I someday will run out of new JAFF books to read 😉.
I had to make my own list though but oh so hard to pick just 10…

1 The Darcy saga by Sharon Lathan
2 Mr Darcy takes a wife by Linda Berdoll
3 Thursdays child by Pat Santarsiero
4 Rainy days by Lory Lilian
    5 Impertinent strangers by P.O . Dixon
6 Rain and retribution by L.L. Diamond
7 Pemberley ranch by Jack Caldwell
8 Last man in the world by Abigail Reynolds
9 The truth about Mr Darcy by Susan Adriani
10 Pirats and Prejudice by Kara Louise

I do love the darker variations and doesn’t mind a lot of angst.

Great list you made, my favorite on it is ‘Mr. Bennet Dutiful Daughter’, and I already own it. But the other books on your giveaway offer I don’t have , so would be great to read any of them.
I’ve read a half of the books on your list. 🙂

  24. My favorite P&P variation would have to be the very first one I ever read and it was the first book in the series written by Pamela Aiden-An Assembly Such as This. I read this LONG before there were electronic readers. My favorite film variation would be Lost in Austen. It made me laugh. “You’re name is Claude?” “It is the name my mother gave me.”

    1. I enjoy Lost in Austen a lot 🙂 i have to read that book, it has been recommended to me several times. Do you want to participate on the giveaway?

  25. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday and many more of the same! I’ve been working on a list of my own Top Ten, and while there are many many wonderful reads, I’d have to say that One False Step by Elaine Owen is quite possibly my favourite (at least this week — ask me again next week!). It was my introduction to the “compromise scenario” and was handled beautifully. Many thanks for the giveaway; I’d be obliged if you’d throw my name into the hat for Still a Young Man. teaguide.net (at) gmail (dot) com.

  26. I have only read Pulse and Prejudice from your list – I loved it because I am a horror junkie but also hold a degree in English literature and Austen is my all-time favorite author! So I am really getting into reading some new Austenesque 🙂 So Pulse and Prejudice and P&P&Zombies were 2 of my faves because it combined my 2 favorite genres.

Also it was my birthday yesterday 3/28! Except I turned 41 so 10 years older than you LOL! I would love to have Dutiful Daughters if I win 🙂 I don’t have any of them though! Thanks for the chance and Happy Birthday!

  27. I’m late joining the party here, but at least I wished you a happy birthday on the correct date :)) I’ve got Facebook to thank for that ;))
You’ve chosen an interesting collection Ana, it’s very diversified and I can see a couple of my favourites there too 🙂 There are also couple that I didn’t like that much, and that is also very interesting. It is revealing of how diversified JAFF can actually be, and how different readers may react differently to the same book. Also, it allows us to have more discussion amongst us and who doesn’t love to discuss JAFF?
For me it’s also very hard to choose favourites, but like you, the factor that makes me consider a book a favourite or not is the ability the author had to make me feel! I love books full of deep feelings, I just love them! And if there is angst, then it’s guaranteed I’ll love it! Anyway I better stop speaking because this is already too long.
If I am lucky to win the giveaway I would love any book except Mr Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter for the sole reason that I already have it :)) it’s clearly one of my favourites :))

  28. Happy Birthday!!

The Man who Loved Pride and Prejudice was one of the first variations I read other than Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Amanda Grange. There are so many good ones out there and I also loved Mr. Bennet’s Dutiful Daughter.

There are quite a few in your list I haven’t read yet!

Of the giveaway books, I’d like to be entered to win Still a Young Man By PO Dixon. I haven’t read that one!

    Thanks for the opportunity.
